Swimming is one of the greatest forms of all-round exercise. It is ideal if you want to be more active and stay healthy, whatever your age or ability.
Regular swimming can reduce the risk of chronic illnesses, such as heart disease, type two diabetes and stroke. It will boost your mood and keep your weight under control.
Being able to swim is also a fantastic life skill and is the only sport that could save a life. Drowning is still one of the most common causes of accidental death, especially in children.
If you're not a confident swimmer, there's no need to worry.
We offer swimming lessons for people of all ages to help them be more confident in the water so they can keep fit and have fun at the same time.
Lessons take place at all five of our pools.
"The water is your friend...you don't have to fight with water, just share the same spirit as the water, and it will help you move."Alexandr Popov

Yellow Stars - children gain deep water confidence and work on their stroke technique
Green Stars - children focus on stroke development, technique and water safety
Schools learn to swim
Our schools learn to swim programme runs at all five of our pools across the district.
Lessons are taught by our friendly and Swim England-qualified instructors and we follow the Learn to Swim framework. We support swimmers of all abilities, from someone who has never been in the water all the way to an advanced level of skill.
At Brimhams Active we believe everyone should have the chance to take part in sport, whatever their ability. That's why we're dedicated to improving access to sport and physical activity for all disabled people in the district.
We have swimming pools in Harrogate, Pateley Bridge, Knaresborough, Ripon and Starbeck and fitness centres in Harrogate, Pateley Bridge and Ripon.
We offer a range of activities to inspire children at our pools, in our gyms and in our wellbeing hubs. It could start as a simple swim but end up being a journey to them becoming an elite athlete.
