Swimming lessons

Swimming is one of the greatest forms of all-round exercise. It is ideal if you want to be more active and stay healthy, whatever your age or ability.

Regular swimming can reduce the risk of chronic illnesses, such as heart disease, type two diabetes and stroke. It will boost your mood and keep your weight under control.

Being able to swim is also a fantastic life skill and is the only sport that could save a life. Drowning is still one of the most common causes of accidental death, especially in children.

If you're not a confident swimmer, there's no need to worry.

We offer swimming lessons for people of all ages to help them be more confident in the water so they can keep fit and have fun at the same time.

Lessons take place at all five of our pools.

Disability swimming lessons

Our weekly 'star scheme' swimming lessons run at the Starbeck Baths for children with special educational needs, disabilities or if they find mainstream provision too challenging.

Red Stars (helpers in the water) - children gain water confidence and familiarisation with the environment

Orange Stars (helpers in the water) - children begin to learn a variety of water skills and the four swimming strokes are introduced

Yellow Stars - children gain deep water confidence and work on their stroke technique

Green Stars - children focus on stroke development, technique and water safety
