Safeguarding children and vulnerable adults

We all have a role to play in protecting children, young people and vulnerable adults.

We are committed to safeguarding the welfare of children and vulnerable adults who we come into contact with through the services we provide.

North Yorkshire County Council is the lead organisation for any concerns for the welfare of children and vulnerable adults in the Harrogate area.

If you are worried about a child, a young person under the age of 18, or a vulnerable adult, you should contact the North Yorkshire County Council customer services centre directly on 01609 780780.

This number is also available outside of office hours. The Minicom number is 01609 779838.

If you or the person you are concerned about is in danger and immediate action is required, you should ring the emergency services on 999.

We have a Safeguarding Policy which sets out what staff should do if they have concerns about the welfare of a child or vulnerable adult, and how we work with our partner agencies to ensure that we protect children and vulnerable adults.

We have a zero tolerance approach to abuse and recognise that all children and adults at risk, irrespective of their background, have a right to protection from abuse, and acknowledge our shared responsibility for safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and adults at risk.

Anything you notice can help a child or adult at risk. You don't have to be absolutely certain about your suspicions; if you're concerned that a child or adult is being abused or their safety is at risk, please speak to someone.

For more information about types and signs of abuse, see the North Yorkshire safeguarding children board's website
