Qualifications

If sport is your passion and you'd like to harness your enthusiasm in a different way, you should consider working towards a formal qualification.

We offer several courses to help you reach your potential.

They include swimming teachers, pool plant, coach or lifeguard. We also offer a first aid course and qualification which can be a valuable skill outside your sports interests.

Our 'mini-medics' course teaches children aged between eight and 11 years old about basic first aid and how to operate a defibrillator. At the very least, children will finish the course knowing how to raise the alarm and make an effective emergency 999 call.

It could be enough to save someone's life.

Coach education courses

If you're a local sports coach or leader interested in jobs or volunteering, you can register your details on our coaches database.

This provides the latest on club development, coach education courses and workshops, jobs and training, and funding opportunities.

Sports development

Our sports development team is keen to support the development of the district's clubs, helping them achieve their potential to provide a high-quality, safe and enjoyable environment for their members.

We can offer advice and support about club accreditation and clubmark, coach education, business planning, policies and procedures for child protection, marketing, and support with school club links, volunteers, constitutions, risk assessments and funding sources.

Club Matters

This is Sport England's one-stop-shop for sports clubs. Club Matters provides free, convenient, practical resources to help you develop and run a sustainable club.

With information on club finances, fundraising and budgeting, club management, marketing, workshops and mentoring, CASC, clubmark accreditation and lots more, the Club Matters website can help you develop your club to be the best it can be.

National governing bodies

NGBs can offer invaluable advice to local clubs, and very often funding providers will also ask for confirmation that your NGB is aware of your project and is supporting you. So it's always worth getting in touch with your local officer.

Club accreditation and Clubmark

Many national governing bodies have a club accreditation scheme, usually Clubmark or a similar scheme. Clubs that have achieved accreditation are recognised nationally as being high quality, and we would always recommend these clubs first to potential new members.

How we can help

If you looking at developing your club, our project planning guide will help you develop a good project plan. Our sports development team has successfully supported several local clubs through the club accreditation process.
